Sun, Jul 31; 11am | Post Pardon: Opera-In-Progress Reading

Artwork & design by Beatrix Chan

On Sunday, July 31st we will present a work-in-progress libretto reading of “Post Pardon: The Opera.”

Adapted from Arisa White’s eponymous poetry chapbook, published by Mouthfeel Press in 2011, “Post Pardon: The Opera” is the transgenerational apology needed to repair a Black woman’s soul. This reading will feature local artists and actors, focusing on the libretto as a poetic literary form and the inherent musicality of language to amplify the ritualistic, performative, and evocative nature of the lyric. A moderated discussion and Q&A will follow.

This program is free, open to all (16+), and will take place in person at Mayo Street Arts (@mayostreetarts) on 10 Mayo Street in Portland, ME. Register here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/post-pardon-an-opera-in-progress-reading-with-arisa-white-tickets-388743390947
